The Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), an autonomous organization established in 1984 under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), serves as a nodal agency to enhance school education through mass media technology. Funded by the Ministry of Education, CIET was formed by merging two NCERT departments, aiming to integrate new-age technologies like radio, television, satellite communications, and cyber media into learning.

Its core activities include designing and disseminating alternative learning systems, promoting educational technology, and training personnel, while coordinating with its six regional State Institutes of Educational Technology (SIETs) across India for broader outreach. The institute is housed in a distinctive 1986 building designed by Raj Rewal Associates, featuring two television studios and comprehensive facilities. CIET also leverages advanced tools such as specialized libraries and the Edusat network, India's first satellite dedicated exclusively to education, to deliver diverse content and interactive learning experiences, making it a pivotal force in educational technology.
