Beginning his career at just 14 years old in 1989 under the tutelage of his uncle Rey Misterio, he quickly rose to prominence.

Mysterio significantly impacted World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from 1996 to 2001, where he popularized cruiserweight wrestling and secured five Cruiserweight Championships.
