The LIU Sharks football program represents Long Island University in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level, competing in the Northeast Conference and playing home games at the 6,000-seat Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. The team's roots trace back to the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, who played from the late 1920s until 1940 under coaches like Herbert Raubenheimer and Clair Bee, before the program was suspended. Football was reinstated in 1957 as the LIU Post Pioneers, achieving considerable success, including reaching the NCAA Division II Playoffs and winning the prestigious 2019 Division II Lambert Cup.

In 2018, Long Island University unified its athletic programs, rebranding the team as the LIU Sharks and immediately elevating them to Division I for the 2019–20 academic year. Across its various iterations, the program boasts an impressive record of 18 conference championships.
