The Jags were a British power-pop band formed in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, in 1978, featuring vocalist Nicole Watkinson and guitarist John Alder, among others. They signed to Island Records in 1978 and released a debut EP the following year, but their biggest success came with the single "Back of My Hand" (1979), which peaked at No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart and was famously described as "one of the best records Elvis Costello didn't write." The song was included on their 1980 debut album Evening Standards, though their follow-up single "Woman's World" only managed a brief chart appearance. After releasing a second album, No Tie Like a Present (1981), and a handful of additional singles, the band disbanded in 1982, leaving behind a short but memorable catalog of jangly, melodic rock.
