Bruce Campbell (born June 22, 1958) is an American actor and filmmaker who became a cult icon for his role as Ash Williams in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead horror series, which began with the 1981 film The Evil Dead after the high school friends funded it with the short Within the Woods (1979). Beyond horror, he has starred in quirky cult films like Maniac Cop and Bubba Ho-Tep (where he played Elvis), while also appearing in mainstream movies such as the Coen Brothers' The Hudsucker Proxy and Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. His television career was prolific, featuring leading roles in The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. and Jack of All Trades, a recurring part as Autolycus in Hercules and Xena, a star turn as Sam Axe in Burn Notice (2007–2013), and a return to Ash in Ash vs. Evil Dead (2015–2018). A frequent collaborator with Raimi and his friends, Campbell also directed and starred in self-referential films like My Name Is Bruce (2007) and made notable cameos, including a 2022 appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
