beIN Sports is a Qatari multinational sports network owned by the state-funded beIN Media Group, led by chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and CEO Yousef Obaidly. It dominates sports broadcasting in the MENA region and operates channels across France, the US, Canada, Australia, Turkey, and Southeast Asia. The network first entered Europe in June 2011 when Al Jazeera secured French Ligue 1 rights for €90 million a year, officially launching as beIN Sports on June 1, 2012, just in time for Euro 2012. In July 2015, it expanded into Spain via an alliance with Mediapro, securing rights to major competitions like the Champions League and La Liga. That same year, it acquired Turkish platform Digiturk to grow its global reach, and by 2024 it achieved a remarkable milestone with over 1.2 billion views for its UEFA Euro 2024 coverage.
