Eliezer Alfonzo (born February 7, 1979) was a Venezuelan professional baseball catcher who played parts of six seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, and Colorado Rockies. He is the second cousin of former MLB star Edgardo Alfonzo. After spending a decade in the minor leagues, Alfonzo made his MLB debut on June 3, 2006, with the Giants, hitting a dramatic two-run home run in his first game—though his jersey was famously misspelled with an "so" instead of "zo." That same season, he filled in for the injured Mike Matheny and caught pitcher Jason Schmidt's historic 16-strikeout game, finishing the year with a .266 average, 12 home runs, and 39 RBIs. He later played for the Padres, Mariners, and Rockies before concluding his MLB career, having also showcased his power in the minors with a career-high 23 home runs in 2005.
