The NFL International Series takes regular-season American football global, expanding from its 2007 London debut to venues across Brazil, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and Mexico, with future stops planned for Australia and France. The series traces its roots to a 2005 regular-season game in Mexico City (Cardinals vs. 49ers) that drew a then-record 103,467 fans, replacing the old preseason American Bowl format. While Wembley Stadium was the exclusive host from 2007 to 2015, the series has since spread to iconic venues like Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Estadio Azteca, Allianz Arena, and the Bernabéu, with Maracanã Stadium and Melbourne Cricket Ground joining in 2026. A 2021 collective bargaining agreement guarantees at least four neutral-site international games each year, with AFC and NFC teams alternating hosting duties so clubs still play eight home games in the US. The first official International Series game saw the New York Giants defeat the Miami Dolphins 13–10 at Wembley in 2007, marking the first NFL regular-season contest ever played outside North America.
