FC Porto, founded on 28 September 1893 by António Nicolau de Almeida, is one of Portugal's "Big Three" clubs (alongside Benfica and Sporting CP) and has never been relegated from the Primeira Liga. Nicknamed the Dragons (dragões), they play at the Estádio do Dragão since 2003 and are the most successful club in Portuguese football with 88 major trophies, including a record 31 league titles—five of which came consecutively from 1994–99—and undefeated seasons in 2010–11 and 2012–13.

On the international stage, Porto is the most decorated Portuguese team, winning the European Cup/UEFA Champions League in 1987 and 2004, the UEFA Cup/Europa League in 2003 and 2011, plus the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup—achieving a historic continental treble in both 2002–03 and 2010–11. After a brief period of inactivity, the club was revived in 1906 by José Monteiro da Costa, and today ranks fourth all-time in Champions League group-stage appearances (27) while sitting 18th in the current UEFA coefficient ranking.
