Jason Witten (born May 6, 1982) is a legendary NFL tight end who played 17 seasons, primarily for the Dallas Cowboys, and currently serves as the tight ends coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. Drafted in 2003 out of the University of Tennessee, he ranks second all-time in career receptions and receiving yards for a tight end, trailing only Tony Gonzalez, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players at his position. After initially retiring in 2018 to work as an ESPN analyst, he returned to the Cowboys in 2019, played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, and ultimately signed a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Cowboys. Overcoming a difficult childhood marked by his father's addiction, he moved in with his football-coach grandfather in Tennessee, where he became a standout two-way player in high school. At Tennessee, he transitioned from defensive end to tight end, setting school records for the position with 39 receptions and 493 receiving yards in 2002, highlighted by a game-winning touchdown in a six-overtime victory over Arkansas.
