Michael Michael, born Constantine Michael Michael to a Greek-Cypriot family in Birmingham, was the ruthless boss of a criminal empire called the Organisation, which profited from drug smuggling, prostitution, and money laundering. After his arrest, he dramatically turned supergrass, and his testimony as a police informer led to the imprisonment of 34 people for a combined 170 years and the dismantling of 26 drug syndicates. His evidence even implicated his own wife, Lynn, who received a suspended sentence for acting as a cash courier, and his lieutenant Janice Marlborough, who ran his brothels, while also helping recover £49 million worth of drugs from a network that had smuggled over 110 kg of cocaine and 19 tonnes of cannabis into Britain. The secret of his cooperation was only revealed in December 2001, when a judge at Woolwich Crown Court sentenced him to six years in prison after he admitted to conspiracies involving cocaine, cannabis, and money laundering, as well as possessing a firearm. Following the lifting of reporting restrictions, it was disclosed that Michael, who lived in Radlett, Hertfordshire, was placed under the witness protection programme and given a new identity to start a fresh life.
