Sports Reference

Sports Reference, LLC is an American sports statistics company founded by Sean Forman in Philadelphia in 2004, operating comprehensive databases for major sports like baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. Its sites, such as Baseball Reference and Pro Football Reference, are incredibly detailed, containing over 100,000 box scores and every NFL scoring play since 1941, with college basketball data going back to 1892. The company also runs the subscription service Stathead and acquired the popular baseball trivia game Immaculate Grid in July 2023. From 2008 to 2020, it maintained an Olympics statistics site, but closed it in May 2020 due to a data licensing change, prompting its data providers (OlyMADmen) to launch the successor site Olympedia, which is now owned by the IOC. The company continues to expand its coverage, adding complete NCAA Division I women's basketball stats in 2023.
