Monday Night Football (MNF) is the NFL's iconic prime-time broadcast, which began on ABC in 1970 after commissioner Pete Rozelle convinced the network to take a risk. It became one of the longest-running and highest-rated shows on television, especially among male viewers, but moved exclusively to ESPN in 2006 after ABC lost money and wanted to protect its hit show Desperate Housewives. The broadcast returned to ABC in 2020 via simulcasts, and since 2023, the bulk of games air simultaneously on both ABC and ESPN, with the alternate "Manningcast" on ESPN2 and streaming on ESPN+. To ensure broad access, local games are also made available on over-the-air stations for viewers without cable. MNF is also broadcast internationally in countries like Canada, the UK, and Australia, and features Spanish and Portuguese language versions.
