Yahoo Inc. is an American multinational technology and media company known for products like Yahoo Mail, News, Finance, and Sports, currently led by CEO Jim Lanzone and majority-owned by Apollo Global Management. In 2017, Verizon acquired Yahoo's core internet business for $4.48 billion (reduced from $4.8 billion after two massive security breaches), folding it into a subsidiary called Oath Inc. The venture struggled, prompting Verizon to write down $4.6 billion in December 2018 and rebrand the unit as Verizon Media in January 2019, during which time it sold Flickr (2018) and controversially banned adult content on Tumblr before selling that platform to Automattic in 2019.
