Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, revolutionized the series in 2007 by abandoning its World War II roots for a modern military setting across PS3, Xbox 360, and Windows (with a Wii port arriving in 2009). The game was a massive critical and commercial hit, winning numerous "Game of the Year" awards and selling nearly 16 million copies by 2013, cementing its status as one of the greatest shooters ever made. Its gameplay features a gripping single-player campaign from the perspectives of the SAS and USMC, alongside a highly influential multiplayer mode with a leveling system, custom classes, perks, and killstreak rewards. The franchise expanded with direct sequels Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and Modern Warfare 3 (2011), as well as a remastered version released in 2016. A full reboot, simply titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, launched in 2019 and spawned three sequels, including Modern Warfare II (2022) and Modern Warfare III (2023).
