John Galliano (born 28 November 1960) is a British fashion designer who led his own label and major houses like Givenchy, Dior, and Maison Margiela. He has been named British Designer of the Year four times and was ranked the fifth most influential person in British culture in a 2004 BBC poll. Born in Gibraltar and raised in South London, he studied at Central Saint Martins, where his 1984 graduation collection, Les Incroyables, inspired by the French Revolution, was bought in its entirety by the boutique Browns. Moving to Paris, he became the first British designer to head a French couture house when he joined Givenchy in 1995, later moving to Dior. In 2026, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced a major exhibition, John Galliano: Horizons, but it was canceled in August 2026 after Galliano acknowledged that the honor would be painful for some due to his antisemitic remarks in 2011. He served as creative director of Maison Margiela from 2014 to 2024.
