MGM Resorts International is a global hospitality and entertainment giant, operating iconic resorts like the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, and MGM Grand across the US and Asia. Its roots trace back to billionaire Kirk Kerkorian, who founded the company as MGM Grand, Inc. in 1987 (after owning the MGM film studio), and it became MGM Mirage in 2000 following the acquisition of Mirage Resorts. In the mid-2000s, the company shifted toward real estate, launching the massive CityCenter project in Las Vegas—one of the most expensive real estate projects ever—but the 2008 financial crisis led to over $1 billion in write-offs. After a stock offering diluted Kerkorian's majority stake, shareholders voted on June 15, 2010, to rename the company MGM Resorts International.
