Michael McDaniel is an American football coach who currently serves as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, having risen through the ranks as a prominent branch of the Shanahan coaching tree. Starting his NFL career as a Denver Broncos intern in 2005, he worked with multiple teams and reached Super Bowl LI (with the Falcons) and Super Bowl LIV (with the 49ers) before being hired as head coach of the Miami Dolphins on February 6, 2022. After four seasons in Miami, he was fired on January 8, 2026. A Yale graduate and biracial (Black and white), McDaniel is outspoken about his battles with alcoholism, having been sober since 2016. Interestingly, his NFL connection began in childhood when a Broncos staffer bought him a replacement cap—and later married his mother.
