The Golden Globe Awards are prestigious annual accolades recognizing excellence in both international film and television, with the first ceremony held in January 1944. Originally established and organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), a group of international journalists, the awards traditionally kick off the industry's annual awards season each January.

Despite their prominence, the Golden Globes have faced challenges, including periods without television broadcasts (notably 1969-1972 and 2022) and a cancellation in 2008 due to a writers' strike. The 2022 ceremony was downsized and non-televised following widespread criticism and boycotts against the HFPA, particularly concerning its lack of diversity. This led to a significant restructuring, effective June 12, 2023, with the Golden Globes being acquired by Dick Clark Productions under Eldridge Industries, transforming them into a for-profit entity while the HFPA's philanthropic activities transitioned to the new Golden Globe Foundation.
