Rory McIlroy is a Northern Irish professional golfer who has spent over 100 weeks as world number one and has won six major championships. He became the first European in history to complete the career grand slam, a feat he achieved by winning the 2025 Masters, following victories at the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championships, and the 2014 Open Championship. He also added a second consecutive Masters title in 2026 and was the first player ever to win the FedEx Cup three times (in 2022), with two Players Championship wins in 2019 and 2025. Born in 1989 in Holywood, County Down, McIlroy showed early promise, joining the local golf club at age seven, and became a prominent figure in the Ryder Cup, playing for Europe in every edition since 2010 and winning six times. His rise was supported by tremendous family sacrifice: his parents both worked multiple jobs, with his father putting in 100-hour weeks to fund his golfing dreams. He has been named PGA Tour Player of the Year three times, and has won the European Tour’s Harry Vardon Trophy seven times.
