The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States, first introduced in 1926. Owned by the College Board, it has undergone numerous name and scoring changes throughout its history, and until June 2021, included optional subject-specific tests. Designed to assess students' readiness for college and predict academic success when combined with high school GPA, the SAT recently transitioned to a fully digital, adaptive format. This new computer-based version, administered via the "Bluebook" program, rolled out internationally in March 2023 and in the U.S. in March 2024. The digital SAT is also significantly shorter, reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours and 14 minutes, and is designed to align more closely with high school curricula. Beyond admissions, the SAT is also a valuable tool for researchers studying human intelligence and is occasionally used in employer recruitment processes.
