Bolivian boliviano

The boliviano (sign: Bs, code: BOB) is the currency of Bolivia, divided into 100 centavos, and its current form was introduced in 1987 to replace the peso boliviano at a staggering rate of 1 million to 1 after a period of rampant inflation, with one new boliviano initially worth about half a US dollar. This currency was actually a revival of an earlier boliviano used from 1864 to 1963, before the peso era. Modern banknotes, released in a new family starting in April 2018 and completed by April 2019, feature prominent historical figures like painter Cecilio Guzman (10 Bs) and historian Gabriel Rene Moreno (100 Bs), and have won awards for being the "best banknotes in Latin America" thanks to their advanced security features and aesthetic design. Coins are notable for their inscription "La union es la Fuerza" ("Union is strength") and include a uniquely shaped undecagonal (11-sided) 2-boliviano coin to help distinguish it from the round 1-boliviano piece. While older coins were marked "Republica de Bolivia," newer ones reflect the country's current official name, "Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia."
