Idyros: An Elusive Greek City of Ancient Lycia

Idyros was a Greek city located in the historical region of Lycia, known in Ancient Greek as Ἴδυρης and in Latin as Idyrus. The exact whereabouts of this ancient settlement have long remained a subject of scholarly uncertainty. According to the ancient writer Pseudo-Scylax, Idyros was situated to the north of the prominent Lycian city of Phaselis. Today, based on archaeological and historical evidence, researchers tentatively place the site of this elusive city near the modern Turkish town of Kemer.
