Seiya Suzuki is a Japanese professional baseball star who currently plays right field and designated hitter for the Chicago Cubs in MLB, having previously starred for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan's NPB. During his time in Japan, he earned five NPB All-Star selections, six Best Nine Awards, and five Golden Glove Awards, while also winning the Central League batting title and the Home Run Derby in 2019. Drafted as a pitcher in 2012, he successfully transitioned to an infielder and then an outfielder, becoming the "face of the Carp" and helping them secure their first pennant in 25 years in 2016. Upon joining the Cubs, he made an immediate splash by starting his MLB career with an eight-game hitting streak, a feat achieved by only two other Cubs players in the last century. His combination of power, batting average, and defensive skill makes him one of the most exciting Japanese players to make the leap to Major League Baseball.
