Shane Baz, born June 17, 1999, to a Lebanese father and American mother, is a professional baseball pitcher currently playing for the Baltimore Orioles after beginning his MLB career with the Tampa Bay Rays. Drafted 12th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017, he was traded to Tampa Bay in 2018 as part of the major deal that sent Chris Archer to Pittsburgh. Baz made his MLB debut on September 20, 2021, posting an impressive 2.03 ERA in his rookie season, but his career was disrupted by a severe injury requiring Tommy John surgery in September 2022, which forced him to miss the entire 2023 season. He rebounded strongly in 2024 with a 3.06 ERA across 14 starts, and then pitched a full 2025 campaign with 31 starts and 176 strikeouts for the Rays. On December 19, 2025, Tampa Bay traded him to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a package of four prospects and a 2026 competitive balance draft pick, marking a fresh start for the resilient pitcher.
