Julian Newman

Julian Newman (born September 6, 2001) is an American college basketball point guard who currently plays for the Bethesda Lion Angels, standing just 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) tall. He first captured global attention in 2012 at age 11, when viral YouTube highlight videos showed him playing varsity basketball for Downey Christian School as a fifth grader, sparking both praise as a child prodigy and criticism for his heavy marketing. Trained rigorously by his father Jamie from age three, Newman achieved remarkable feats in middle school, including scoring 91 points in a single game, becoming the youngest player to reach 1,000 career varsity points in 2015, and scoring 52 points in a highly publicized 2016 matchup. By 2018, as a high school sophomore, he had amassed 3,873 total points, breaking the Florida prep scoring record, and later transferred to Prodigy Prep—a school created by his father—for his senior season. In 2024, Newman signed with Bethesda University of the NCCAA, making his collegiate debut against The Master's, cementing his unique journey from viral sensation to college athlete.
