He holds notable victories over UFC champions Jens Pulver, Matt Serra, and Clay Guida, with his win over Serra at UFC 41 being particularly controversial due to a judge's scoring error that initially awarded Serra the victory. After competing on The Ultimate Fighter 4 and suffering defeats to Kenny Florian and Josh Neer, he was released from the UFC but later dropped to featherweight and continued winning.
