The Santa Fe Opera (SFO), an internationally renowned American opera company, was founded by conductor John Crosby in 1956 and is located just north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Since its inaugural season in July 1957, SFO has earned a distinguished reputation for presenting five operas each summer, skillfully blending productions of the standard repertoire with a strong commitment to new works. Notably, the company has championed innovation by staging 45 American premieres and 18 world premieres, including significant productions like The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs. John Crosby served as general director until 2000, marking the longest directorship in U.S. opera history and cementing the company's unique artistic vision. Today, under General Director Robert K. Meya and Music Director Harry Bicket, the Santa Fe Opera continues its legacy of artistic excellence and support for American talent.
