Karen Gillan is a Scottish actress and filmmaker born in Inverness in 1987, who began her career with modelling and early TV roles before gaining recognition. Her breakthrough came as Amy Pond, the Eleventh Doctor's companion in the iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who (2010–2013). She then made her Hollywood debut with Oculus (2013) and the sitcom Selfie (2014), but achieved global stardom playing Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (2014–2023) and Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji films (2017, 2019, 2026). Beyond acting, she wrote and directed the drama The Party's Just Beginning (2018). In the 2020s, she continued with diverse roles in Gunpowder Milkshake (2021), Dual (2022), and The Life of Chuck (2024), as well as returning to British television with Douglas Is Cancelled (2024).
