Sam Burns (born July 23, 1996) is an American professional golfer on the PGA Tour with five career victories, who was a standout at LSU and earned the 2016-17 Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year award. After turning pro in 2017, he claimed his first PGA Tour title at the 2021 Valspar Championship and added the Sanderson Farms Championship later that year. He successfully defended his Valspar title in 2022 and won the Charles Schwab Challenge that same year, overcoming a seven-stroke deficit in a playoff against Scottie Scheffler. In 2023, he triumphed at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, beating Cameron Young 6 and 5. Burns has also represented the U.S. in team events, including the 2022 Presidents Cup and the 2023 Ryder Cup, where he lost his singles match to Rory McIlroy.
