Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson (born 8 September 1989) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Víkingur Reykjavík and the Iceland national team, where he holds the record as the country's all-time top scorer with 28 goals. After starting his career at Reading, he moved to TSG Hoffenheim in 2010 (winning Player of the Season at both clubs), then played for Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur, and returned to Swansea before joining Everton in 2017 for a then club-record £40 million fee. Earlier in his career, he made a name for himself with a remarkable 2009–10 FA Cup run at Reading, scoring decisive goals against Premier League sides Liverpool, Burnley, and West Bromwich Albion, alongside loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra. On the international stage, he debuted in 2010 and played a key role at Iceland's first major tournament, UEFA Euro 2016 (reaching the quarter-finals), and their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2018. In a significant off-pitch development, he was arrested in 2021 on suspicion of child sexual offences but was freed without charge in 2023, after which he resumed his playing career with Lyngby in Denmark and Valur in Iceland.
