Shameless is an American comedy-drama series developed by John Wells, airing on Showtime from January 9, 2011, to April 11, 2021, as an adaptation of Paul Abbott's British series. Set in Chicago's South Side, it follows the chaotic Gallagher family, led by the alcoholic and neglectful patriarch Frank (William H. Macy), whose six children—including the fiercely responsible eldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum)—survive through scams, petty crimes, and turbulent relationships after their bipolar mother abandons them. The show became Showtime's longest-running scripted original series with its ninth season premiere in September 2018. Renewed for an eleventh and final season, production was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, pushing the premiere to December 6, 2020, and accompanied by a clip-show companion series, Shameless: Hall of Shame. The series finale aired on April 11, 2021, concluding the Gallagher family's decade-long journey.
