H-E-B is a privately held supermarket giant headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, founded in 1905 by Florence Butt in Kerrville. The company now operates 455 stores across Texas and Mexico, generating $49.6 billion in revenue (FY2025) and employing roughly 175,000 people, with the Butt family retaining an 87% ownership stake. From its humble start, it evolved into a major regional player, adopting the H-E-B name in the 1930s, moving its HQ to San Antonio in 1985, and entering Mexico in 1997. In recent years, it has expanded aggressively into the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex (opening its first namesake store in Frisco in 2022) and acquired the delivery service Favor in 2018.
