Katie Taylor (born 2 July 1986 in Bray, County Wicklow) is an Irish professional boxer and former footballer, widely regarded as one of the greatest female boxers of all time and credited with transforming the profile of women's boxing in Ireland. As an amateur, she dominated the sport, winning five consecutive World Championship golds and an Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Games, where she also served as Ireland's flag bearer. Turning professional in 2016, she made history in 2019 by defeating Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden to become the eighth boxer—male or female—to hold all four major world titles (WBA, IBF, WBC, WBO) simultaneously as the undisputed lightweight champion. She repeated this feat in November 2023 at super lightweight, beating Chantelle Cameron in Dublin to unify the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC, and WBO titles. As of September 2025, she is ranked the world's best active female boxer pound-for-pound by both The Ring and BoxRec, known for her fast-paced, aggressive style. Notably, she began boxing at age 12 and fought in Ireland's first officially sanctioned female boxing match at just 15, setting the stage for her trailblazing career.
