Glenn Close (born March 19, 1947) is a legendary American actress whose five-decade career has earned her an Academy Honorary Award, three Emmys, three Tonys, three Golden Globes, and eight Oscar nominations, leading to her inclusion in Time's 100 most influential people in 2019. She first made her mark on Broadway, winning Tony Awards for The Real Thing (1983), Death and the Maiden (1992), and the musical Sunset Boulevard (1995). Her iconic film roles range from her debut in The World According to Garp (1982) to Fatal Attraction (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), and 101 Dalmatians (1996), with later acclaimed performances in Albert Nobbs (2011) and The Wife (2017). On television, she won an Emmy for Serving in Silence (1995) and two more for her role as Patty Hewes in Damages (2007–2012). Born in Greenwich, Connecticut, Close spent part of her childhood in the Moral Re-Armament movement, and she is also known for her political activism and her daughter, Annie Starke.
