Ben Joyce (born September 17, 2000) is a flamethrowing pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels who made history with his incredible velocity. While at the University of Tennessee, he threw the fastest pitch in college baseball history at 105.5 mph on May 1, 2022, after overcoming a remarkable physical growth spurt (from 5'5" to 6'5") and Tommy John surgery. Drafted in the third round of the 2022 MLB draft, he made his major league debut on May 29, 2023, against the Chicago White Sox. In 2024, he struck out J.D. Martinez on a 104.7 mph fastball for his first save—the fastest strikeout pitch in MLB since 2008—and later hit 105.5 mph again against the Dodgers. He finished 2024 with a stellar 2.08 ERA and four saves, but was shut down with an injury. After a brief start to 2025, he underwent season-ending surgery on May 14, 2025, leaving fans eager to see if his record-breaking arm returns to full strength.
