Atlas F.C.
Atlas Fútbol Club (Atlas FC) is a Mexican professional football club based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, that competes in Liga MX and plays its home matches at Estadio Jalisco. Founded in 1916, it was one of the ten founding members of Mexico's first professional league, and its nickname Rojinegros (red and black) derives from the colors of Ampleforth College in England, where the club's founders studied. Domestically, the club has won three Liga MX titles, four Copa MX titles, and five Campeón de Campeones, enjoying a golden era in the 1950s and 60s and recently achieving back-to-back championships (bicampeones) in 2021 and 2022. They share a fierce city rivalry with Guadalajara in the Clásico Tapatío. After winning their first league title in 1950-51, they were relegated and quickly returned, and in the late 1990s, under manager Ricardo La Volpe, they fielded a talented squad (including Rafael Márquez and Pavel Pardo) but lost the Verano 1999 final. In 2000, they made a memorable Copa Libertadores run, reaching the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Palmeiras.
