IREN

IREN Ltd (formerly Iris Energy Ltd) is a Sydney-based company that operates data centres powered entirely by renewable energy, primarily for Bitcoin mining and leasing to cloud-computing and AI clients. Founded in 2018 by brothers Daniel and William Roberts, the company went public on the Nasdaq in November 2021, raising roughly US$232 million, and currently owns major facilities in Texas (650MW) and British Columbia (160MW) with thousands of megawatts in development. The company made headlines in November 2025 by securing a US$9.7 billion contract with Microsoft to provide computing power, and later that year ordered over 50,000 Nvidia GPUs, bringing its total capacity to 150,000. In May 2026, it entered a strategic agreement with Nvidia to offer managed GPU cloud services using its Texas data centre, giving Nvidia a five-year option to buy IREN shares. The company also became the jersey patch sponsor for the Golden State Warriors in 2026, but has faced legal scrutiny, including a shareholder lawsuit alleging misleading statements about its computing capabilities, which was dismissed by a US court in September 2024.
