Jacob Ray Rogers (born April 18, 1995) is an American professional baseball catcher currently playing for the Chicago White Sox, having previously suited up for the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox. After an undrafted high school career and a standout college stint at Tulane, he was drafted by the Houston Astros in 2016, but was famously traded to the Detroit Tigers in August 2017 as part of the blockbuster deal that sent ace Justin Verlander to Houston. Rogers made his MLB debut on July 30, 2019, collecting his first hit that very night and his first home run the next day, while also earning a spot in the 2019 All-Star Futures Game. His promising trajectory hit a major roadblock in September 2021 when he underwent Tommy John surgery, forcing him to miss the entire 2022 season. He bounced back in 2023 with a career-best 21 home runs, but struggled at the plate in subsequent years, eventually losing his starting job with the Tigers before moving on to his current team.
