Boris Becker (born 1967) is a legendary German former professional tennis player who became the youngest-ever Wimbledon men's singles champion at just 17 years old in 1985, achieving this feat as an unseeded player. Rising to World No. 1, he amassed 49 career singles titles, including six major championships (three Wimbledons, two Australian Opens, and one US Open), an Olympic gold medal in doubles in 1992, and led Germany to two Davis Cup titles in 1988 and 1989. Credited as a pioneer of "power tennis" due to his explosive serve and aggressive all-court game, he topped the ATP and ITF Player of the Year rankings in 1989. After retiring, he became a prominent commentator and coach—most notably mentoring Novak Djokovic for three years—while also dabbling in professional poker. However, his post-career was overshadowed by legal troubles, including a suspended sentence for tax evasion in 2002, bankruptcy in the UK in 2017, and a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence in 2022 for hiding assets, after which he was released early and deported to Germany.
