Sue Bird (born October 16, 1980, in Syosset, New York) is a retired American basketball icon who spent her entire 20-year WNBA career with the Seattle Storm after being selected first overall in the 2002 draft. She is widely considered one of the greatest players in WNBA history, having won a joint-record four WNBA championships (2004, 2010, 2018, 2020)—making her the only WNBA player to win titles in three different decades—as well as five Olympic gold medals (2004–2020) and four FIBA World Cups. Her college career at the University of Connecticut was equally dominant, as she led the undefeated 2002 team to a national title, finished with a remarkable 114–4 record, and won the Naismith and Wade trophies as National Player of the Year. Beyond America, she also captured five EuroLeague Women championships and five Russian Premier League titles while playing professionally in Russia. Bird retired after the 2022 season, having been named to 13 WNBA All-Star teams and voted onto the league's all-time top 15, 20, and 25 lists, and she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025.
