Steam Machine

Announced on November 12, 2025, and released on June 29, 2026, the Steam Machine is Valve's small form-factor gaming console designed to run SteamOS and deliver a home console-like experience on televisions. Unlike the failed 2015 original—which relied on third-party manufacturers and was discontinued in 2018—this new model is manufactured directly by Valve, leveraging lessons from the successful Steam Deck and its Proton compatibility layer to access a vast library of Windows games. The console's cube-like shape is built around a 120mm cooling fan, prompting fans to nickname it the "GabeCube" in reference to Valve president Gabe Newell and its resemblance to the Nintendo GameCube. Valve had initially planned to allow third-party makers to produce their own versions, but in February 2026 it delayed shipping to revisit costs due to skyrocketing RAM prices from a memory supply shortage. Despite the delay, reservations opened on June 22, 2026, with pricing anticipated to be "more in line" with the current PC market rather than traditional console pricing.
