Henry Cavill (born 5 May 1983 in Jersey) is a British actor who became a global star playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe (2013–2023), starting with Man of Steel (2013) and reprising the role in Batman v Superman, Justice League, and Black Adam. Before that, he earned critical acclaim as Charles Brandon in Showtime's The Tudors (2007–2010) and later starred as the monster-hunting Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher (2019–2023). His diverse filmography also includes Immortals, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the Enola Holmes series, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Growing up as the fourth of five boys, he met actor Russell Crowe while at Stowe School in 2000—Crowe shared acting tips and later co-starred with him in Man of Steel. Interestingly, Cavill nearly landed the Superman role in McG's 2004 film Superman: Flyby (which fell through), and was author Stephenie Meyer's personal pick for Twilight's Edward Cullen, but he had aged out of the part by the time production began.
