Henrikh Mkhitaryan (born 21 January 1989 in Yerevan) is an Armenian professional footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Serie A club Inter Milan and is the all-time top goalscorer for the Armenia national team. After winning four league titles with Pyunik, he moved to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2010, where he set a league goalscoring record in the 2012–13 season and was named Footballer of the Year. His career then took him to Borussia Dortmund (2013), where he registered a record 15 Bundesliga assists, and then to Manchester United (2016), where he scored the winning goal in the 2017 UEFA Europa League final. Following a swap-deal with Alexis Sánchez, he joined Arsenal in 2018, later moving to Roma (2020) and finally Inter Milan in 2022. Internationally, he retired in 2022 with 32 goals in 95 caps, and he has been named Armenian Footballer of the Year twelve times, including seven consecutive years from 2011 to 2017. Notably, he was also the first Armenian to be voted the CIS Footballer of the Year, doing so in 2012 and 2013. Growing up, he was deeply influenced by his father, a prominent striker who died of a brain tumor when Henrikh was seven, and he considers Zinedine Zidane his football idol.
