Anthony Rendon (born June 6, 1990) is a Mexican-American professional baseball third baseman for the Los Angeles Angels, though he rose to fame as a star with the Washington Nationals. A collegiate standout at Rice University, he won the 2010 Dick Howser Trophy before being drafted sixth overall by the Nationals in 2011, making his MLB debut in 2013. With Washington, he earned Silver Slugger Awards in 2014 and 2019, led the National League in RBIs in 2019, and was a vital member of the 2019 World Series championship team. In December 2019, he signed a stunning seven-year, $245 million contract with the Angels, but injuries have marred his tenure, limiting him to just 257 games over six seasons. Interestingly, he turned down a draft offer from the Atlanta Braves out of high school to attend Rice, where he hit over .380 in both his freshman and sophomore years, showcasing elite talent from the very beginning.
