Borussia Dortmund, commonly known as BVB, is a major German professional sports club based in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, and is best known for its men's football team competing in the Bundesliga. Founded in 1909 by a group of eighteen young men, the club is nicknamed Die Schwarzgelben (The Black and Yellow) and boasts a fierce rivalry with Ruhr neighbours Schalke 04 in the Revierderby.

The club plays its home games at the Westfalenstadion, the largest stadium in Germany, which houses the famous "Yellow Wall"—the largest standing terrace in European football—and attracts the highest average attendance of any football club in the world. Domestically, Borussia Dortmund is a powerhouse with eight league championships and five DFB-Pokals; internationally, they achieved legendary status by winning the UEFA Champions League in 1997, along with the European Cup Winners' Cup and Intercontinental Cup.
