Naomi Klein (born May 8, 1970) is a Canadian social activist and author known for her incisive critiques of capitalism, corporate globalization, and for her strong support of ecofeminism and organized labour. Her breakthrough work was No Logo (1999), followed by The Shock Doctrine (2007) and the New York Times bestseller This Changes Everything (2014), which solidified her role as a leading global voice on climate justice. For her activism, she received the Sydney Peace Prize in 2016 and was appointed the UBC Professor of Climate Justice at the University of British Columbia in 2021. Interestingly, Klein rebelled against her activist upbringing—her parents were Vietnam War resisters—by embracing teenage consumerism, but her worldview shifted dramatically after she stepped away from her studies to care for her mother following a severe stroke. She frequently collaborates with her husband, filmmaker Avi Lewis, notably on the 2004 documentary The Take, which explores worker-managed factories in Argentina.
