Robin Roberts (born November 23, 1960) is a pioneering American broadcaster who co-anchors ABC's Good Morning America, a role she took on in 2005. Growing up in Pass Christian, Mississippi, she was a standout athlete, and at Southeastern Louisiana University she graduated cum laude in 1983 while scoring over 1,400 career points in basketball. Before joining GMA, Roberts spent 15 years (1990–2005) as a groundbreaking sportscaster at ESPN, where she made history as the first woman to co-host NFL Primetime. In 2009, she partnered with George Stephanopoulos, and their dynamic leadership helped Good Morning America reclaim the top spot in morning-show ratings, beating NBC's Today in April 2012. That same year, her courageous public battle with myelodysplastic syndrome—chronicled on the show—earned a Peabody Award, while her athletic legacy was honored with induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
