The Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University stands as one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive colleges dedicated to design and the arts. Established in 2009 through the merger of the Katherine K. Herberger College of the Arts and the College of Design, the institute encompasses a broad spectrum of creative disciplines. It comprises six distinct schools: ASU FIDM, the School of Art, the School of Arts, Media and Engineering, The Design School, The Sidney Poitier New American Film School (renamed in 2020), and the School of Music, Dance and Theatre. Beyond its academic units, the institute also houses the ASU Art Museum and the ASU FIDM Museum, notable as Los Angeles's sole fashion museum, underscoring its significant presence across two states and four cities, including Los Angeles, in addition to its online offerings.

In 2024, architect and educator Renée Cheng assumed the role of the institute's new dean, succeeding Steven Tepper, who led the institute for a decade before becoming president of Hamilton College. Cheng's appointment also includes her service as senior vice provost at ASU. The institute has received notable recognition, including a $100,000 award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in 2017 for its partnership with the Center for Performance and Civic Practice, highlighting its commitment to impactful artistic and design endeavors.
