Real Madrid Club de Fútbol Femenino is the professional women’s football team of the Spanish giant, competing in the top-tier Primera División. The club’s roots trace back to 2014 with the founding of CD TACÓN—a name standing for Trabajo, Atrevimiento, Conocimiento, Organización, Notoriedad—by Ana Rossell, who had lobbied Real Madrid for a women’s section since 1997. After years of resistance from president Florentino Pérez, who in 2017 claimed he would build a team “from scratch” rather than buy one, Real Madrid instead proposed absorbing TACÓN in June 2019; the deal was approved by members that September and officially completed in 2020 with a rebranding. TACÓN had already made history by merging with CD Canillas in 2016 and earning promotion to the top flight in May 2019, just before the takeover. Today, the team plays its home games at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, marking a long-awaited but powerful entry into elite European women’s football for one of the world's most iconic clubs.
